B737 Cockpit Companion 5.0.3
Paid Version
Publisher Description
Since 1998, B737 Cockpit Companion has been a valued resource for airline pilots worldwide. It is a convenient accessible guide to systems, incorporating notes on functionality, "theory of operation", and Bill's extensive experience as a line pilot with a major US carrier.
B737 Cockpit Companion steps far beyond the "need to know" philosophy that is characteristic of modern systems training, and which frustrates many line pilots.
The app is much more than an "eBook." At its heart is a powerful database engine that allows a tremendous number of configuration options to be customized without forcing the user to wade through clutter: When you browse a control head, for instance, you will see only content related to that control head.
The app features a touch-based navigation scheme, so you can start with the top-level cockpit view, and find notes specific to the panel you deal with.
It also contains a number of reference options, so you can look up data without having to work through the control panels.
The major features include:
- Extensive coverage of the B737-600, -700, -800, -900, the BBJs, the 737 MAX, and the Classic EFIS/EIS.
- The complete text of the B737 NG Cockpit Companion print version--and more.
- All-new, high-resolution graphics detailing every panel and control head.
- A note-taking capability.
- The ability to create your own flashcards.
- An extensive index of over 700 items, linked to the main text.
- A circuit breaker locator.
- Bill's high-resolution, vector-based schematics.
- The content of the B737 Alerts app—a $15 value—optimized for the new database.
- An extensive glossary.
- A database update feature to help keep the database up to date (requires a wireless connection).
Of interest to students or prospective pilots, we also include:
- A sample Limitations function.
- A sample Master Minimum Equipment List, based on FAA Rev 55a.
- An ATA chapter database.
As with all products of this type, this program is for informational purposes only. Your FAA-approved company flight manual is the final authority as to the safe and correct operation of your airplane.
One optional in-app subscription, "Pro App", is available. This includes the text of FMC Guide, Bill Bulfer's book on the Flight Management System; and Quizzer. This is a convenient way of reviewing systems operation, and was written by Bill.
• The subscription lasts one year.
• Payment will be charged to your iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase
• The subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current period, and identify the cost of the renewal at the time.
• Subscriptions may be managed by you, and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to your iTunes Account Settings in System Settings after purchase.
NOTE: The app is supported and designed for the iPad 4 and later. We strive to support the app on two iOS revisions older than the current system. The app is, therefore, not supported on the original iPad (2010), iPad 2 (2012), iPad 3 ("The new iPad", 2012), iPad 4 ("iPad with Retina display", 2012), or the original iPad Mini (2012). As of September 2020, it requires iOS 12 or later.

Version 4.7.1, May 25, 2023, DB 2183, Update History May 2023

FAA released three new ADs this week, and are included in the ADs section.
Per our two-back policy, we’ve finally dropped support for iOS 13 and earlier.

Note: My NNCs are for educational purposes; you must use your QRH procedures.
Re-wrote my view of the Airspeed Unreliable NNC.
It’s organized a little different and contains educational points.
Note: Several carriers have the following paragraph.
“When in trim and stabilized, cross check the captain, first officer and standby airspeed indicators.
An airspeed indication that differs by more than 20 knots or 0.03 Mach from the airspeed
shown in the table should be considered unreliable.”

We’ve rewritten how subscriptions work. This is an “under the hood” change, and should be transparent to all. It should mainly result in a sharper experience for new subscribers.
If you already have a subscription, and the FMC Guide or Quizzer show as unavailable, just go to Info & Settings-> Subscribe and choose Restore Purchases. You need to be on a network; it should take around five seconds. If you have to do this and it doesn’t work, please let us know; we’ll get on it ASAP.
We’ve thoroughly tested the new approach in a “sandbox” environment Apple provides, but there’s nothing like the real world to challenge the best of plans.

Continues to be a learning experience.
Regarding the Quick Steps for depowering the main battery chgr on the last update…
A reader pointed out a step that I missed. Thank you Ralph.
As you know, the ELEC light will illuminate on the ground for a battery chgr failure.
If you simulate a main battery chgr failure by pulling the BAT CHGR CB, the fault will latch, even after resetting the CB.
You must clear the fault using the 801. P5-13 ELEC light Message BITE procedure.
This procedure is described in the app.
Browse > AC & DC Metering Panel > MAINT button > step (d)
Added a drawing of the top view of the 20 cell Ni-Cad battery that is in the B737.
Browse > AC & DC Metering Panel > System Notes > Scroll almost to the bottom.
Check this out.
Note: If the main battery chgr fails, the battery is powering the inverter, hot bat bus and sw. hot bat bus. Draw is 4-5 amps.
Starting with a fully charged 48 amp-hour battery, (48 / 5 = 9.6) you can see the main battery will possibly last for hours at this rate of discharge.
This may be why the factory does not address the idea of bringing the aux battery chgr onto the battery bus bar for loss of the main battery chgr.
But consider your BAT DISCHARGE NNC that states:
“Note: A fully charged battery supplies a minimum of 30 minutes of standby power.”
With loss of the main battery chgr you still have normal power to the stby buses and bat bus.
In this scenario the main battery may last longer than your fuel.
Re-wrote the BAT DISCHARGE NNCs (single battery and dual battery)
These are, of course, for educational purposes and not to be used in the airplane.
Browse > AC & DC Metering Panel > BAT DISCHARGE light.
The learning process continues with these procedures.

Added a drawing of the Low Pressure Check Valve in the pneumatic system.
This has been of interest lately as airplanes are brought out of storage.
There is an AD to check the free movement of these split flapper valves.
A few have stuck in the open position. On descent, if the flapper valves do not close, high pressure bleed air can enter the 5th stage bleed port and cause a lot of problems with reverse air flow - compressor stalls.
To get to it on any NG or MAX airplane
> Bleed Controls > Pneumatic System Notes > scroll to Low / Intermediate Pressure Check Valve.
While you are there, review the regulating pressures that the HPSOV and PRSOV use. You should commit the PRSOV to memory as that will give you a heads up of a pending pneumatic / pressurization problem.

Improved the Autoslat drawing within all Flight Control System drawings.
Once you understand the autoslat control valve drawing, you’ll have no problem understanding how the autoslat system works.
Very simple design.
The LE flap/slat EXT (extend) line does not go thru the autoslat control valve.
The slat FULL EXT line does go thru the autoslat control valve but in normal operation, the autoslat solenoids are not energized.
If the autoslat system is energized, it takes hydraulic power from the EXT line and sends it to the FULL EXT line.

1. App improvements.
2. Editorial Changes.
1. We’ve rewritten how the display of multiple control heads work. You’ll normally see this when touching a PFD or ND and options exist for your airplane. Please let us know if you see any abnormalities, such as the wrong control heads appearing or no control heads appearing.
2. Many, many editorial changes:
Happy New Year everyone. (sorry we took so long for this one)
A lot of work has been done to this one, including work by Robert that you can’t tell on your end.
QUIZZER:
Added two questions to the Engine, APU Lesson.
1793 and 1794, both dealing with engine oil.
All airplanes:
> Pedals > Brake System Notes
Removed the drawings that show the transfer of hyd fluid and left just the text.
I am requesting pilot/engineer reports of this operation.

Any flight control component controlled by the FSEU has been moved to the Flap Indicator System Notes (asymmetry, skew, UCM, cruise depressurization valve, and TE flap bypass valve).
I could never remember where to find them.
If it’s mechanically controlled by the flap lever, it’s moved to the Flap Lever System Notes
(FCU, flap control valve, LE flap & slat control valve).
New graphics with these subjects.
Added one new auto slat study graphic and corrected an old one.
These are mainly for my own interest and for instructors and engineers.
> Schematics > ATA 27 Flight Controls > Flight Controls - Autoslat CV 1 and 2 Study.
I think #1 is a bit easier to understand.
Re-wrote and supplied new graphics for the Autoslat system.
These are very educational.
